It was really more of a party. And no one is expected to provide thoughtful musical insights about a band playing a party. So, here's a recap of what I remember instead.

Minneapolis' Sparrowhawk came down to celebrate. No one loves Thin Lizzy more than Sparrowhawk. No one loves Sparrowhawk more than me. Maybe. Twin leads. Loud as hell. Vocal duties are shared – sometimes song by song, sometimes line by line. A David Johansen cover? Welcome to rock 'n' roll. Welcome to Minneapolis too, as there's a loose Replacements vibe and that flat Minnesota accent puts Craig Finn's to shame. The four-piece played for thirty minutes, finishing early to ensure time for alcohol and fireworks. Name a more iconic duo.

It was getting dark when The Whiffs started. Fireworks exploded out on the street. The patio was full. So was the bar. The quartet played a lot of new songs. A month ago, they were rough. Now they're ready to be recorded. I'm ready for them to be recorded anyway. They sounded good. A new PA may have had something to do with it. That twelve-string Rickenbacker sounded especially rich. The band ended with "On the Boulevard." There's no better song. No better band.

Then everyone walked over to Easy Inn to watch their neighbors blow up the whole goddamned block. Skol!
